Charter Schools

Big Island Schools

In Hawaii, charter schools are public schools funded on a “per-pupil” allocation separate from the Department of Education and are free to attend. Visit the State Public Charter School Commission to find more information about charter schools in Hawaii and to locate a school near you. Please note, enrollment is limited and lottery-based for most charter schools in Hawaii. Contact the school you are interested in directly to learn more about their enrollment process.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS

If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) in private school, we recommend visiting the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools for more information and to search for schools by island, zip code, grade, religious affiliation, etc. Contact the school you are interested in directly to learn more about their enrollment process.

HOME SCHOOL

If you would like to homeschool your child(ren), the first step is to submit Form 4140 to the principal of your local public school. Visit the Department of Educations FAQs about Homeschooling for more information.
